Lots of the items we use every day are made in different countries. We use airplanes to transport these items all around the world. In this slideshow you can learn about all the different things that come into or leave Canada through Pearson airport. (Hint: you might be sharing your plane with live lobsters!)

Air Time: Let’s talk to Darin Juby

Airport Explorer Malka got to talk to Darin Juby, the Director of Baggage Services at the airport. He makes sure that all the bags get to the right place. They talk about what he likes about his job, what happens to bags that get left behind, and the strangest thing he’s ever seen at work!


Activity: Be the first to yell “Cargo!”

It’s a race to find cargo! What can you find that was made in Asia? That sparkles? That makes a sound? Find them fast, line up 5 boxes, and be the first to yell “Cargo!”

Can you create a paper airplane that can hold your cargo and go the distance? See how far your plane will fly and experiment with where you place your cargo with this fun craft and competition!

Activity: How much cargo can you carry?

To make sure cargo is transported safely from airport to airport, it needs to be secured in the cargo hold. Use your math skills to create the right size cargo hold to keep your popcorn cargo safe. Make sure you don’t eat all your cargo before you can test it out!
